Greetings fellow dog lovers! Wishing you and your dog pals a very Happy 2013! Today I wanted to share thoughts on washing the stinky mutt. I live close by the Unleashed by Petco store here in the marina and they have a very convenient self service doggy wash area. They supply the towels and dog shampoo & conditioner, although I usually bring my own shampoo and extra drying towels because sometimes they run out. It gets crazy busy during the weekends, so I avoid it and only go on weekdays. I dont have a backyard with a hose, plus I think my dog Roxie would probably growl at me if i used a cold hose in this weather! Unleashed has hot water and I’m sure the dog appreciates it! How many of you bathe your dog at home or in your tub? How do you deal with the hair and soapy mess? What do you think is the best dog shampoo ever?
Keep our Malls clean!
One of the many beautiful things in our neighborhood are the malls in between Via Dolce and Roma Crt. They are well maintained by the gardeners and the people that live next to them. I met a lady on Lighthouse Mall that sneered at Roxie and I playing fetch. She was so upset that the neighborhood dogs were destroying the malls flowers beds and pooing all over the place. I can totally understand her frustration. I get really upset when I see dog poop on the sidewalk and in the malls. I carry extra bags to pick up after the irresponsible knuckleheads that let this happen.
I admit that sometimes I find myself without bags, but i know the locations of public poop bags that are on the trails near the canal and bridge and grab a few to return and pick up after Roxie. I appreciate the owner of Oliver, the Jack Russel Terrier. This lady refills the poop bags along the trail all the way up to the Jetty. If you run into her, please thank her for her massive contribution.
I love that there is a huge dog community here in the Marina, but I encourage all of us to be responsible and help keep the neighborhood clean and have respect for our malls and neighbors. Please leave me a comment & let me know if you are having issues with dogs destroying property or any concerns about keeping our neighborhood dog-friendly. Have a great week!
Busted on the beach – No Dogs Allowed
I have been lucky. I have lived the past 4 years next to the beach and managed to avoid getting a fine. Marina Del Rey beach is a no-dogs allowed beach. The best part of my day is the morning walk with my dog Roxie along the Marina Del Rey beach. She loves fetching the ball and greeting her doggy pals on the sand. I’ve met quite a few dog owners that weren’t so lucky. They shared with me crazy stories of dealing with mean police men, getting a fine, and having to pay a ridiculous sum of money for being on the beach with their dog. It’s a shame that we have this gorgeous stretch of beach and about half of the residents in the area are dog owners but are not allowed to have the dogs on the sand.
If you are not a pet owner, I can understand the frustrations of having this pristine beach marred by irresponsible dog owners that dont clean up after themselves. It’s just as annoying to me to see dog poop on the sand. very uncool. That’s why I carry extra bags so that I can pick up after some dope’s dog. I also care about the cleanliness of our beach and want everybody to enjoy it as well without stepping into poop.
In order to avoid fines, I will set up a marinadoggy twitter watch for all locals to join and look out for each other. let me know if you think this is a good idea. Also Let me know if you have any crazy dog ticket stories you want to share.
